Stop by any local IHOP for National Pancake Day. On Tuesday, February 28th, IHOP restaurants are giving away free pancakes.
Also known as Shrove Tuesday or Fat Tuesday, Pancake Day is a tradition that dates back several centuries to when the English prepared for fasting during Lent.
This is the seventh year IHOP has given away free stacks of Buttermilk pancakes to raise money for charity. Since beginning its National Pancake Day celebration in 2006, IHOP has raised nearly $8 million to support local charities.
On Tuesday, IHOP is once again offering a free short stack of Buttermilk pancakes.
IHOP guests can get their free short stack of its signature pancakes from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. at more than 1,500 restaurants throughout the United States.
In return, guests are encouraged to make a voluntary donation to support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and other designated local charities.
There’s a limit to one short stack per person but with a 2012 goal to raise 2.7 million, IHOP is gearing up to make this year a successful one.
Many participating IHOP restaurants are already raising funds for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals with the sale of “Miracle Balloons” during the month of February.
These balloons contribute to the IHOP National Pancake Day fundraising efforts. By purchasing a $5 Miracle Balloon, a coupon is given for $5 off towards a $20 purchase on their next visit.
So why hold Pancake Tuesday a week after Shrove Tuesday?
To allow for a full month of fundraising for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, IHOP’s National Pancake Day is a week after Shrove Tuesday; scheduled for Tuesday, February 28.
For 53 years, the IHOP family restaurant chain has served its world famous pancakes and a wide variety of breakfast, lunch and dinner options.
