According to the Canadian Press on Tuesday, Canadian Olympic gold medalist Jarome Iginla of Edmonton, Alberta has been named the National Hockey League player of the month for March.

In 17 games, Iginla had 13 goals and four assists for the Boston Bruins who went a remarkable 15-1-1 to move into first place in the overall standings. The Bruins are currently at 110 points and lead the St. Louis Blues by three points in the race for the President's Trophy. The last time Boston won the President's Trophy was in 1990. That year Boston lost the Stanley Cup Final to the Edmonton Oilers, who according to David Amber (formerly of ESPN), was Iginla's favourite hockey team growing up.

Iginla leads Boston this season with 30 goals and eight game winning goals. He is also third overall (behind his Bruins teammates David Krejci and Canadian Olympic gold medalist Patrice Bergeron) in the plus-minus category with a +34.

Iginla won a gold medal with Canada at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City and the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. In that time, he had eight goals and three assists for 11 points in 13 games.
