If you haven’t been hiding under a rock for the past few months then chances are you’ve heard of the name “Iggy Azalea”. The Australian female rapper/model has been in the music business since 2011, but has recently become a sensation thanks to a certain single from her debut album “The New Classic.” So much of a sensation, that is, that Iggy Azalea is poised to be the star of the summer 2014 song, ahead of other musicians contending for top spot, reported NYDailyNews.com on May 25, 2014.
This single we speak of is none other than Iggy Azalea’s fourth single on “The New Classic” aptly titled “Fancy”, which is proving to be the 23-year-old’s breakthrough hit. The song “Fancy” even comes complete with a “Clueless”-themed music video and a certain father/daughter duo lip syncing video that went viral. Azalea can also presently be found rapping alongside Ariana Grande in the smash hit “Problem”, which places her as the first female rapper ever to have two songs concurrently in the top five of the US charts, according to News.com.au.
Iggy Azalea is even being compared to last year’s king of summer songs, Pharrell, who sang on two of the top three summer smashes: “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk and “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke. Not bad for a girl who dropped out of school at 15 to make money by cleaning hotels with her mother in search of a bigger dream: America.
Azalea’s life seems destined to become an episode of VH1’s “Behind the Music” for many reasons. After leaving her hometown of Mullumbimby, New South Whales in 2006 (just before her 16th birthday), Azalea told her parents she was going on vacation with a friend to the U.S. Azalea ended up staying permanently and never went back. From there she reached out to rapper T.I. and members of the rap crew Dungeon Family, and started on her journey to stardom.
