If your New Year's resolution is to write a book, here are some tips for you

If publishing a book was one of your New Year’s resolutions for 2013, here are some helpful hints.

Take a publishing class from your local adult education offerings or at the local community college or university. They are pretty commonly on the upcoming spring semester class list.

Sign up for the newsletter offered by the West Virginia Writers. That organization has events throughout the state including monthly gatherings at local libraries to encourage potential writers. These writer’s groups often also give critiques, allow your questions to be answered, and provide a great resource for ideas and suggestions.

It is easier than ever to become published. If you are fearing the publishing process, there is absolutely nothing to fear (but fear itself).

And remember these thoughts. Not all the great books have already been written. Everyday a new author is published. And while many new authors are certainly not getting rich from the experience, at least one new author did. Her name was Amanda Hocking. She sold over 1.5 million ebooks in the last two years and made about $2.5 million.

Who knows? You may be the next J. K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series and an author who has sold 400 million books.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life and a great day to start writing that book that has been bouncing around in your head for years. Good luck.
