If you have never been to Kansas City, MO and Country Club Plaza at the holidays, you are truly missing out on a great time.
The Thanksgiving holiday is a great time to be in Kansas City. If you get there the day before , you have the chance to settle in to your hotel and get dinner or make a reservation for the next day at a local eatery.
Kansas City makes a great big party out of the lighting of the plaza. They have guest artists on the local level, fireworks etc... You can also see musicians practically on every corner as you wander from one end of the plaza to the other.
After the lights are lit, if you want a truly unobstructed view, go to the top of the Halls building parking garage to get that view.
No matter where you are you get a great view of the lights.
But when it comes to where to eat and shop, here are some great suggestions:
For shopping it depends on your taste. If you are for unique gifts, travel on up to Westport, just a few minutes from the plaza to the World Market, where there are gifts from all over the world, that will satisfy if not one, all your gift giving needs. If you are looking for more of the fancy items for your gift giving needs, you might check out Halls in the plaza, for some of the most stylish items for you and your tree.(If you have a sweet tooth, stop by their candy section.)
For those who are popcorn gurus and are looking the best popcorn in Kansas City, stop buy Topsy's on Central in the plaza. When it comes to popcorn this is the standard to look for. They also have the best cinnamon popcorn ever( and probably the only). It is the perfect balance of salt and sweet.
Prydes in Westport, is a stop that you should make, if you are looking to overhaul your kitchen. From cookbooks, vinegars, teas, etc.... There is something in Prydes for everyone.
For quick eats in Westport you should try Sarpinos to satisfy you cravings. Sarpinos is similar another pizza chain found here in Oklahoma. They have great sandwiches, pastas, pizzas, etc.... The added bonus is they are a block or so away from a major hotel, and offer free delivery.
We all know Kansas City is known as a major player in the BBQ world, and on your holiday exploration you definitely need to make a stop by Jack Stack BBQ for some of the best BBQ in Kansas City. Their take out is just as fabulous as in the restaurant.
Train fanatics will enjoy this next one, if you want to see a beautiful train station at the holidays that is still functioning as one, with other treats hidden inside, then a trip to downtown Kansas City is in order to see Union Station.
Overall, it comes down to everyone should do a shopping trip to Kansas City at the holidays at least once, you will really enjoy it, if not the shopping the food will keep you coming back. (It is a great get away to bond with family, or a great girls weekend, you will definitely have fun, no matter who you are with.)
Happy Holidays to All! May you be blessed with plenty of love, giggles, sloppy wet kisses(from the pets) and have a great New Year!
