If you are unhappy

As you close the second week of the New Year how are you feeling? Are you feeling inspired about your opportunities or was the change to 2014 just a blip on the radar and you’re still feeling trapped? Perhaps, you’re unsure how you got to this point? Are you looking at a significant other or someone else and blaming them for your unhappy situation?

If this is the case, you need to look in the mirror. Yes, we have outside interference and distraction in our life, but it is our own decisions or lack thereof that create our destiny. If your destiny today is not up to par, guess what, it is time to make a change.

So, if you are unhappy in your marriage, start with communication and share your feelings. Make the conversation with your significant other about the hurt you are experiencing instead of screaming that he or she isn’t doing enough. For example, you might say, “I used to feel safe and loved when you pulled me over in the bed and held me. I haven’t felt this way in a long time and this hurts me.” If genuine communication doesn’t seem to work, reach for outside help, perhaps a clergy or counselor.

If you’re unhappy with your job, fuel your passion into a hobby to gain bliss. Research the credentials you would need to transition yourself into a new profession that better suits you and consider going back to school to enable this.

If you’re unhappy with your finances, create a budget and find ways to cut corners while you research ways to make extra money. If you have a spare room in your home, consider subletting it out for rent. Think outside of the box.

If you are overwhelmed, start asking for help. Life is about give and take and your body is telling you that you’re giving too much. It is time to humble oneself by allowing others to help.

I’m sure most anyone can spend hours dissecting their life and making a list of things they are unhappy about, really it is part of life. But, if your unhappiness is affecting your health and your livelihood, it is time to take control and do something about this. We are in the information age and you have options. Start by Googling, “How can I improve (you fill in the blank here).” You will gain a wealth of information through this easy step. Be brave.

Deepak Chopra offered some insight about this in his recent 21 days of Inspirations, “True freedom comes from breaking loose from the prison of past conditioning and the repetition of old memories and thought- patterns. The past is the known and offers no opportunity for choice and possibility. And the future exists only in the imagination. Freedom lies in the present moment, the only place where you can choose from an infinite range of possibilities. Remember, no matter how long you’ve been stuck in a pattern of behavior, every moment is an opportunity to choose anew.”

Seize the day my friend, you are worthy of so much more!
