An interesting blog from ESPN.com's Dan Rafael shed some light on whom Manny Pacquiao's next opponent could be. Of course, the obvious fight everone wants to see is Pacquiao vs. the winner of Shane Mosley / Floyd Mayweather. However, a Mayweather win would resume drug testing talk which held negotiations for their fight the first time around at a stand still. If Mosley wins, then Mayweather has a rematch clause which would probably hold a Pacquiao - Mosley bout off for at least 6 months.
The other possible opponents mentioned in the blog are Antonio Margarito, Edwin Valero and Juan Manuel Marquez. Here are my thoughts on each of those opponents and the chances of them fighting Pacman.
Margarito - I used to feel he would be to big and strong for Pacquiao. He was the champ at the time Pacquiao obliterated Oscar De La Hoya and the consensus was "you're crazy" for even bringing up a Pacquiao - Margarito bout. However, now I thnk Pacquiao's blinding speed would be too much for the former titleholder. Margarito's claim to fame was resilency and power. After getting caught tryign to illegally wrap his hands prior to his fight with Mosley (which he lost by 9th round KO) he showed neither resiliency or power. MMM...makes me wonder? This guy doesn't deserve a big fight like Pacquiao.
Valero - This brawling KO artist would either knock Pacquiao out or be knocked out himself...probably the latter. This fight would most likely be contested at 140 pounds which would give Pacquiao a reason not to vacate his Ring Magazine junior welterweight title and would be fun for however long it lasted.
Marquez - If not Mayweather or Mosley, I liek Marquez. His first two bouts with Pacquiao were wars and some people feel Marquez rightfully won both times. Nevertheless, the fights were competitive which is more than any of Pacman's last 5 opponents can say. I would not be opposed to Pacquiao - Marquez III.

Pacquiao has nothing gain against Margacheato, Marquez and Valero. Paquiao should fight Gayweather, Mosley or Andre Berto for the undesputed welterweight champion. If not, make another history for the 154lbs title against Cory Spink or winner of Foreman/Cotto, then retire.

Why would you feel Marquez won his previous fights with Paquiao? To eliminate personal "feeling" and confusion about those 2 fights let us just base our decision from the judges n matter if it is tainted or not/.....but those 2 marques and pacquiao fight were nmot tainted but pacquiao I say was "shortchanged". Did not in the second fight the judge erred to score 7-10 giving marquez a bonus draw?.........Anyhow I like Marquez to challenged pacquiaio for a III fight but I sure think Marques would not have a chance of winning most partucularly that Pacquiao now is a multi dimensional fighter not like the chicken Mayweather who only returned to boxing because he is envious of Pacquiao's "greatness". Mayweather returning to boxing at the pretext of cleaning boxing with drug users but actually his real motive is ENVY and why would he cleaned boxing now? Why did not he do it when he retired? Arum is right about the Rematch Clause. Hence Shane would have to beat Mayweather TWICE in a Row. So if Mayweather JR fight doesn't happen, then my vote is for a JMM at 140 and then have PACMAN retire going out on Top and Allowing us to Laugh at the fact that JMM could not knock down PAC in three fights, even less beat him.
i would watch the valero fight in texas. marquez can go to the pinas to fight it there if he is that desperate at 140

If Floyd got beat terribly, do you think the promoters will stage a rematch between the two? If Floyd gets knocked out ala Margarito type of KO, there won't be an immediate rematch. Mosley will fight Pacquiao and the loser of the two will fight Floyd. Don't put Valero in the mix cause Valero will have no power at 140. At 135, his power was not enough to knock out a mediocre fighter.

Pacquiao can retire now if he wants to. He has already accomplished things beyond everyone's expectation. He already being considered as an all time great. Fighting Mayweather will only be as an icing on the cake. Mayweather or not, Pacquiao has already been considered as one of the greatest if not the greatest fighter whoever lace a glove. I'm with Freddie Roach on this one about finally shutting Marquez up. I admired Marquez for fighting on after getting knocked down 3 or 4 times against Pacquiao. But, after losing one fight and drawing the other, he has done nothing but complain and whine. I watched both fights. The resiliency of Marquez was spectacular. He was a true warrior in the ring. But, outside the ring he is more whiner than warrior. The idea that Marquez won both fights is ludicrous. If he fights Pacquiao a third time, he will be knocked into retirement and if he doesn't realize that - especially after how Pacquiao has improved as of late - he is delusional.

Manny Pacquiao stands alone on top of the boxing world. Floyd gave up his pound for pound title when he retired. Manny is strong and his strength was born out of NECESSITY. The necessity to SURVIVE.
