In Summerville, South Carolina, there is an amazing 11-year-old girl that is helping out the homeless in her community in an unbelievable way. Katie Stagliano, did something one day that turned into starting a non profit organization that helps feed the homeless.
In third grade, Katie's parents let her plant a cabbage in her family's small garden at their home. When the cabbage was finished growing, it weighed an astounding 40 pounds, and so Katie decided to donate it to a soup kitchen nearby. Her 40 pound cabbage ended up helping feed 275 homeless people. When Katie heard about how many people that one 40 pound cabbage fed she realized that she could grow a lot more and help more homeless people than that.
And so Katie's Krops was started, which is a non profit organization that Katie thought of (with the help of her parents of course) and she now has six vegetable gardens where after she grows vegetables she donates it to the homeless community.
Over the duration of this year, Katie has donated more than 2,000 pounds of vegetables to local soup kitchens because of all of her efforts. By this October, they estimate 1,200 more pounds will be donated once harvested.
This girl is amazing! She has showed the world that it does not matter what age you are, but that you can really make an impact on other people. She helps out so many homeless people and she is only 11 years old.
If she can do it then so can you. Start helping out your homeless community today. Who knows? Maybe you can think of an idea that can help out our Phoenix homeless just like Katie did and make a huge difference in our community.
