If a President goes against our Constitution, there is no choice but impeachment

If Congress doesn't agree with Obama, it's really no big deal to the President's feelings. For example, if he wants, he believes it is fine to sidestep Congress and the Constitution to decide on his own to raise the $16.4 trillion debt ceiling. He is proudly on record as saying he is willing to take over authority to do exactly that.

If he is successful, doesn't that mean our free republic system is meaningless and ineffective with power non-existent?

Constitutional lawyer and outspoken pundit Mark Levin explains if Obama is allowed to actively ignore Congress's "core power" (control over spending and taxing in addition to declaring war), then Congress must respond with impeachment proceedings.

"No Congress can tolerate such a complete and brazen frontal assault on its enumerated power. No Congress. No twisting of the language in the 14th Amendment or any way else, because we will cease to be a federal government of three coequal branches. We will cease to be that.

So, if a president commits a high crime and misdemeanor, which in this case is a brazen frontal attack on the Constitution itself in a way that no president has ever attacked the Constitution — seizing power unilaterally from the Congress — then we have no choice, do we? Do we, than to remove him from office?"

Executive Action to enforce gun control

At his press conference yesterday (1/14/13), Obama spoke of using executive action for policies that would reduce gun violence (i.e., slowly chip away at gun rights).

Shortly after Obama's press conference declaration, Texas Rep. Steve Stockman (R) said he would file articles of impeachment against the President if he does use an executive order to bring forth gun control measures. To Stockman's way of thinking, such executive orders would prove “an existential threat to this nation.”

He furthermore stated,

"The White House’s recent announcement they will use executive orders and executive actions to infringe on our constitutionally-protected right to keep and bear arms is an unconstitutional and unconscionable attack on the very founding principles of this republic.

I will seek to thwart this action by any means necessary, including but not limited to eliminating funding for implementation, defunding the White House, and even filing articles of impeachment.

The President’s actions are an existential threat to this nation. The right of the people to keep and bear arms is what has kept this nation free and secure for over 200 years. The very purpose of the Second Amendment is to stop the government from disallowing people the means to defend themselves against tyranny. Any proposal to abuse executive power and infringe upon gun rights must be repelled with the stiffest legislative force possible."
