When you read headlines that say "NO THANK YOU: PACQUIAO REJECTED $40 MILLION GUARANTEE FROM MAYWEATHER", it leads an unsuspecting reader or naive boxing fan to think and believe than Manny Pacquiao turned down an incredible amount of money to fight Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and suggest that he is "ducking" the undefeated boxer.
Of course, recognizing the source of the uninspired blog would be enough to realize the insignificance of such a sensational headline, but not everyone pays attention to detail -- especially the bandwagon fans.
The meat of the story is about Mayweather's phone call to Pacquiao last week and that he allegedly verbally offered Pacquiao a guaranteed purse of $40 million. There's a catch though, Pacquiao must waive any share of the Pay-Per-View revenue.
What was Pacquiao supposed to say really? Yes? As in "okay Floyd, they don't teach common sense and basic mathematics here in the Philippines, so I'll be a dumb ass and agree to your offer. Thank you. I'm just doing my job. Bye-bye. <hang up>."

A fight like Pacquiao vs. Mayweather will shatter PPV records and clear more than 3 million PPV buys easily. EASILY!
$60 x 3 million. Do the math. You get the point.
Okay how about this. If Mayweather's offer is so fair and so good, then why don't he offer it to himself? I'm sure Bob Arum would jump at that idea.
If anything, Mayweather's offer to Pacquiao suggests that he never really truly intended to fight Pacquiao unless he thinks the man is an absolute imbecile. Well, he's not. And until Mayweather backs up his bravado and Twitter trash talk tactics with a sensible fight offer, then all of this is nothing more than what he's been doing all along = HYPE. As in bull crap.
If he insists that Pacquiao will make more money than he has his entire career fighting Mayweather, fact is, he will as well. So what gives? Is he simply overpricing himself because he had no real intention in fighting Pacquiao? Seems like that to me. Pacquiao is asking for 50/50, not a killing.
Maybe Mayweather really wants to fight Pacquiao, but just has too big of an ego to actually allow him to lower his demands. Maybe Mayweather is simply content in dropping Pacquiao's name every time he needs to generate hype for an upcoming fight. Maybe this, maybe that, but I'm not buying.
50 Cent is alright, but other than his "beefs" with other rappers to generate hype, he hasn't really released a significant album since "Get Rich or Die Trying". But hey, that's just me; I'm more of a "Public Enemy" kind of guy. Guess that's why I "Don't Believe the HYPE."
