One of American favorite weekend traditions is that of watching “their” team square off in the NFL for a weekly battle of the pigskin. But before, those players were playing on Sundays in the NFL or even Saturdays in college for that matter, they were first standout of their local high school teams, and contributing to Friday Night Lights.
In our weekly review of the outstanding football players in the Inland Valley, we look at Moreno Valley’s Canyon Spring High School Cougars. The team lead by Senior Quarterback, Cody Cervantes began the season on a very strong note, winning their first three games; but in the past three weeks, they have run into a tough patch with three losses.
But, in a string of tough-nosed performances over the course of the young season, win or lose Cervantes continued to contribute strong performance to put his team in a position to win. In his last game against JW North, Cervantes passed for 213 yards, with three touchdowns; bringing his season to date number to 1152 yards passing, and twelve touchdowns with only six games played.
For his efforts, Cervantes was named our Player of the Week, presented by IESportsNet.com. We caught up with Cervantes to talk about his season, his past and his future in football:
