The Chesterfield Police are investigating 2-cases of stolen social security numbers that were used to file fraudulent tax returns. Reportedly, the IRS stated that criminals are using someone else's names and social security numbers for tax returns. The criminals are using the stolen identities to e-file and steal the refund before the IRS or victims are aware of the incident. The victims eventually get their refund but its delayed following an extensive process in order to prove their true identities to the IRS. The identity thieves filed more than 2 million in returns in 2011 alone and to date they have stolen upwards of 6.5 billion.
