Justin Bateman and Melissa McCarthy combine their talents to bring “Identity Thief” to the screen on February 8, 2013.
Behind the scenes, Seth Gordon of “Horrible Bosses” fame will direct the film.
Plot: After swiping his credit card at a gas station, Sandy Bigelow Patterson finds his credit is in deficit. Called into the police station, detective Reilly informs Sandy he has not shown up for his court date in Florida. Problem is, Sandy has never been to Florida.
Detective Reilly lets Sandy in on a little secret – his identity has been stolen. Reilly provides Sandy with the information on a “Sandy Bigelow Patterson” who lives in Florida, who missed a court date and obviously has stolen Sandy’s name.
Seeing the picture of the woman, Sandy believes he can retrieve his identity and his pride. The woman is a “hobbit,” he tells his girlfriend. Sandy embarks on one of the worst journeys of his life.
Meeting up with the other Sandy is incredibly difficult. However, after following her in his car, she slams on brakes and makes the meeting even quicker than he dreams.
“Stolen Identity” should be a riot. The inclusion of McCarthy’s wit and slapstick juxtaposed Bateman’s usual soft spoken, sweet persona will indeed bring on the laughs.
