'Identity Thief' steals back weekend box office crown

‘Identity Thief’ reclaimed the top spot at the weekend box office, according to industry figures released Monday.

The R-rated comedy starring Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman earned $14 million in its third weekend, pushing its total to more than $93 million.

Dwayne Johnson action thriller ‘Snitch’ opened at No. 2 with $13.1 million.

The weekend’s other newcomer, alien abduction thriller ‘Dark Skies,' debuted at No.6 with $8.1 million.

Animated 3D science fiction film ‘Escape from Planet Earth’ held strong in its second week, moving up one spot to third with $10.6 million.

The adaptation of Nicholas Sparks novel ‘Safe Haven’ slipped one notch to fourth in its second week with $10.4 million.

Bruce Willis action romp ‘A Good Day to Die Hard’ tumbled from the top spot to fifth in its second weekend with $10.1 million. The fifth ‘Die Hard’ film is on track to be the least successful of the franchise.
