ONTARIO, Calif. – The Ontario Reign, back-to-back Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, announced that the AHL’s St. John’s IceCaps have re-assigned forwards Yasin Cisse and Zach O’Brien to Ontario.
Cisse, 21, is the first Jets prospect to join the Reign’s roster. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound right wing spent the 2012-13 season between the QMJHL’s Blainville-Broisbriand Armada where he earned 14 points (8g, 6a) in 27 games, and Boston University where he recorded two assists in 13 games as a Sophomore.
A native of Westmount, Quebec, Cisse was a fifth round selection (#150 overall) by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2010 NHL Draft. He spent two seasons in the USHL with the Des Moines Buccaneers recording 27 points (15g, 12a), followed by three seasons with Boston University where he recorded seven points (2g, 5a) in just 39 appearances.
O’Brien, 21, joins the Reign after completing an impressive, four-year campaign in the QMJHL with Acadie-Bathurst Titan where he led the team in points for the past two seasons. In 2011-12 he led his team and ranked second in the league with 101 points (50g, 51a); his 50 goals ranked him number one in the league in that category and put him on the QMJHL’s Second All-Star team. Last season O’Brien ranked third in the QMJHL with 47 goals, he added 45 assists for a total of 92 points, leading his team for the second straight season.
As a rookie in 2010-11, O’Brien made a strong impression posting the most goals and points of all rookies with 29 goals and 36 assists for 65 points. The 5-foot-9, 178-pount St. John’s, Newfoundland native was named to the QMJHL All-Rookie team that year.
