Ice wine festival getting chili

CANANDAIGUA, NY -- The New York Wine and Culinary Center this year is trying to make its nIce Wine Festival even nIcer.

The fourth annual event, set for non to 5 p.m. Saturday, February 25, has expanded with the addition of a chili contest. You can either compete in the contest as a team of four, or head to the event as a guest and sample the chili.

Tickets are $25 for the wine and food tastings from 12 to 5 p.m. Hot chocolate for kids and hot coffee for adults will be available, and the festival also will include ice-carving demonstrations.

The schedule for the day:

  • 10 a.m. to noon: "Sizzle and Chill" chili competition.
  • Noon to 5 p.m.: Ice wine and dessert wine tastings with food sampling.
  • 12:30  to1:30 p.m.: Winter Wine & Food Pairing class.
  • 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.: Chili judging.
  • 2 p.m.: Ice sculpture demonstration on the outdoor deck with Chuck Dawes from Specialty Ice Company.
  • 3 to 4 p.m.: Wine and chocolate pairing
  • 3:30 p.m.: Announcement of chili competition winner.
  • 4 p.m.: Ice sculpture demonstration.
  • All Day: Signature drink specials in the Taste of New York Restaurant.
