According to the Western Hockey League website on Thursday, the Kootenay Ice defeated the Calgary Hitmen 6-5 from the Scotiabank Saddledome to take a 3-2 series lead in their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series in the 2014 Western Hockey League playoffs.

However the Ice victory Thursday will be considered very controversial.

When Jaedon Descheneau scored the game winning goal at the end of the second period, there appeared to be no time left on the clock from every video replay on Shaw Cable that was made available to television viewers.

However, the Western Hockey League issued the following statement on Thursday night after the game.

"The video evidence in the Video Goal Judge booth clearly showed the puck had crossed the line with 0.1 seconds remaining on the clock. The Video Goal Judge booth is considered the official time clock when reviewing goals and is the same system utilized by the NHL."

It is just unfortunate that television viewers did not have the same access to the official time clock as the goal judges.

Game six of the series will take place Saturday in Cranbrook.
