Last year the NS Icewine festival in 2013 had to be postponed for a week at the last moment with the arrival of a massive blizzard. The Winery Association of Nova Scotia is being much more cautious with its plans this year.

Domaine de Grand Pré, Nova Scotia's beautiful destination winery, is hosting the festival with neighbouring wineries Luckett Vineyards, Blomidon Estates, L'Acadie Vineyards, Sainte-Famille Winery and Avondale Sky joining them on site for the Icewine Festival events. Very similar events are planned for the two weekends, so that weather cancellations will allow most of the plans to go ahead at least one of the weekends if not both.

February 8-9, 2014
Events will be held from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm including wine and food pairings, pig roast, raclette and bonfire. Family events will include a snowshoe hike on Saturday afternoon. Grape vine crafts on Sunday afternoon and a chance for celebrity style photos on the Icewine carpet, and music. $20 per person.

February 15-16, 2014
From 12:00 - 4:00, wine and food pairing, gourmet marshmallows, chocolate and icewine. Also available for purchase Acadian maple products and maple candy. Family events include snowshoe hike on Saturday and grape vine crafts on Sunday, Icewine carpet photos and music. $20 per person.

The winery association would like people to consider coming down to Wolfville for the weekend. Le Caveau, Domaine de Grand Pré's world class winery restaurant, is open with a special festival dinner menu, three course meals for $45 per person on Friday and Saturday evenings Feb 7 or 8. On the Valentine's Day weekend a more lavish celebration is offered with a four course meal on Feb 14 or 15 for $55 per person.

Two local wine tour companies are offering a number of packages to ensure that participants can enjoy the events without the worry of driving. Options include short trips for quick visits to and from Halifax or Wolfville or a romantic overnight weekend escape.
