A chilly reception is exactly what the bride and groom planned, when they tied the knot at Sweet Republic Artisan Ice Cream shop in Scottsdale on March 6, 2010.
Sweet Republic is one of the city’s hottest attractions and was recently named #1 on Bon Appetit Magazine’s list of Best Ice Cream Shops in America. New Times Best of Phoenix, a feature in Sunset Magazine and a TLC television segment also add to Sweet Republic’s most recent credits.
“I Do?” You bet Lucy and Alex did! They both loved Sweet Republic’s ice cream and ambiance so much that the upscale ice cream shop was top of their list for wedding reception locations. It’s where Lucy Swerdfeger and fiancé Alex Matthews had their first date after meeting on Facebook, playing Superheroes and Chess.Skype video calls followed and then came their first date at Sweet Republic, where they indulged in the store’s signature scoops like Salted Butter Caramel, Cheese Course Duo and Basil Lime Sorbet. For their ice cream wedding cake the couple eventually decided on Honey Lavender (fresh cream infused with French lavender flowers accented with pure raw Desert Bloom honey) hand made by Sweet Republic owners Helen Yung and Jan Wichayanuparp.
More than likely, the 40 wedding guests thought it was the “coolest” reception ever and presumably, groom didn’t mind a bit when bride gave him the cold shoulder.
Sweet Republic is location at 9160 E Shea Blvd. in Scottsdale.
