Ice beat Hitmen 5-2 in WHL playoffs

According to the Western Hockey League website, the Kootenay Ice defeated the Calgary Hitmen 5-2 on Thursday night from the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary to open the 2014 Western Hockey League postseason.

Captain Sam Reinhart, whose father Paul Reinhart played for the Calgary Flames from 1979-1988, led the Ice in scoring with two goals and three points.

The Hitmen scored first on a goal by Greg Chase, but then saw the Ice score five consecutive goals. With the victory, Kootenay takes a 1-0 lead in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.

Game two of the series will take place Saturday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Game time is 7:00 p.m.

It was also announced this week that Calgary will host the 2014 Western Hockey League awards luncheon on Wednesday, April 30 and the 2014 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft on Thursday, May 1. Both events will take place at the Deerfoot Inn, 11500 35th street SE.
