Ice accumulation forecast for Friday (Photos)

It appears that Columbia Metro will be spared from any icing issues. However, there could still be a period tomorrow of a little light freezing rain or sleet before a changeover to light rain and drizzle.

Areas just North and Northwest of Columbia could see a longer period of light wintry precipitation. Ice accumulations will be minimal from a trace to perhaps a light glaze on elevated surfaces.

Locations from Newberry to Winnsboro and points North and Northwest may become a bit icy, especially if temperatures hold near the freezing mark. Although precipitation will be light, there could still be some slick spots and ice forming on elevated surfaces.

Friday Night as the precipitation comes to an end, there will still be a chance for freezing rain as temperatures fall back to around freezing.

Remember, just a little bit of ice accumulation can cause issues. Unlike snow that melts on contact from warm ground, ice will stick on contact on surfaces.
