Ian Somerhalder tweeted early Monday morning, August 20 (6:30 a.m. to be exact) "#STARTARYOT starts today ! Help me bring it home for @Sierra Club Foundation, it's for our future. SCorg/SC_RYOT
The Sierra Club is one of Ian Somerhalder’s favorite organizations .They help take care of animals native to America such as wolves, grizzly bears and etc. and work on environmental issues such as blocking oil drilling in the Artic Sea, finding alternative energy sources besides, oil, gas and coal, and reducing carbon emissions. This is the organization that inspired Ian to form the Ian Somerhalder Foundation.
RYOT .org. is beginning an ‘official partnership’ with CrowdRise .com and in observance of this new alliance RYOT will be donating $200,000 to charities with a CrowdRise Challenge entitled #STARTARYOT The Challenge begins Monday August 19 and continue through September 24 at 12 p.m. EST. Through this Challenge people can donate money for their favorite non-profit in good standing. During that period the non-profit that raises the most money will win $75,000, second place will win $50,000 and third place will get $25,000. RYOT will also be giving away $10,000 a week.
RYOT is sweetening the deal for contributors. Each week they will be giving away two tickets each week for VIP onstage tickets to the 2013 Global Citizen Concert in Central Park in New York City. The artists who will be performing are Alicia Keyes, John Mayer, Stevie Wonder and Kings of Leon.
Ian stated that ‘RYOT is the first news site that connects every story with an action. It lets you know what’s happening in the world and what you can do about it. I believe RYOT is the future of news because it creates quantifiable change in the world. We must radically change the concept of news for young people and empower them to become activated individuals. We’re extremely pumped to STARTARYOT on CrowdRise and raise tons of money for great non-profits.’
