United Nations Environmental Protection Goodwill Ambassador Ian Somerhalder reminds us that its time for the World Environment Day Challenge 2014. The theme of this year’s observance is Small islands, Developing States and the UNEP urges people to honor June 5 by joining a team.
The aim of Team Ian is to ‘go green’ The way to achieve this goal is to join friends, families, neighborhoods etc to learn how businesses treat the environment and to only purchase goods and services from those that have a commitment to the earth and sound and sustainable ecological policies.
In Ian’s own words… “We are polluting our air with carbon dioxide emissions, destroying our forests and species and filling our seas with plastics and waste. The time is now to go greener by making choices that are good for people and the earth.’
The other UNEP Goodwill Ambassadors Don Chedle, Giselle, and YaYa also have teams that have a different slant on the environmental issue. Don wants us to ‘Power Down’ by decreasing the amount of carbon dioxide emissions that is helping to increase global temperatures, Giselle asks that we ‘reduce our foodprint'-food waste in land fills is the largest contributor of global warming. YaYa needs us to use recyclable bags and lessen our plastic bottle usage.
As Ian has stated this is the only earth we have and we need to treat her better
