Some Ian Somerhalder fans were very upset that "The Vampire Diaries" star didn't get cast in the "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie, and it's likely that they blamed the movie producers, the director, or author E. L. James for snubbing Ian. However, according to a Sept. 23 report by Wetpaint, the actor recently revealed a different reason for why he missed out on playing Christian Grey.
Ian talked about the role during an interview with Huffpost Live. "Guys, I’m on a TV show that shoots 10 months a year, and I’m so unbelievably grateful for all the support and all the cheering and all the love," he said. So apparently Ian Somerhalder decided that he just couldn't make the "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie work with his hectic schedule. You have to remember that he's busy trying to save the world when he's not filming "The Vampire Diaries" (someone really needs to cast him as Captain Planet).
Ian went on to let fans know that he's not disappointed about missing out on the role. "You read all these blogs that say, ‘Ian Somerhalder angry, livid, he’s not in 50 Shades of Grey.’ No, no, no, no. There’s none of that," he said. So maybe his fans will finally give Charlie Hunnam a chance now that they know that the "Sons of Anarchy" actor didn't upset Ian by "stealing" the role that he once wanted.
Ian also talked about his involvement with RYOT News, which is a unique website that is trying to make "activism journalism" mainstream by linking every news story with an action, such as fundraising for victims of a natural disaster. It's a project that Ian is very passionate about, and he's hoping that he can use his star power to inspire his fans to make a real difference. So maybe Ian lovers should visit RYOT.com instead of trying to start a riot over Charlie Hunnam getting cast as Christian Grey.
