Fans who follow actor Ian Somerhalder on Instagram got quick peek at Somerhalder after the cast and crew “wrapped” season 5 of "The Vampire Diaries." On April 9 Somerhalder posted a photo of himself seemingly asleep, with what appears to be a script in his hand, on what he says was the final day of filming for fifth season of “The Vampire Diaries.”

Somerhalder, who became an American heartthrob thanks to his role as the delectable vampire, Damon Salvatore on “The Vampire Diaries,” not only sent a thank you out to the cast and crew of the show in his post, but he also said thank you to the show's audience. He told the audience that without them he and the rest of “The Vampire Diaries” team “are nothing.”

Somerhalder wasn't the only member of the “The Vampire Diaries” team to post about the wrap up of season 5. Julie Plec, who is the executive producer for the show, also posted a tweet announcing that the season was a wrap, and told fans that season 6 of the show is coming their way.

“The Vampire Diaries” is a one-hour supernatural drama that airs on the CW Network at 9 p.m. on Thursdays. The show, which is based on the 1991 book series “The Vampire Diaries” written by L. J. Smith, follows a group of supernatural teens and young adults as they fight for love and life while battling through countless attempts to steal both. The show originally premiered in September 2009.

Season 5 of “The Vampire Diaries” first premiered in October 2013, and according to an article published by Tvline.com, the season 5 finale is set to air on May 15, 2014 at 9 p.m. on the CW Network.

There is no word on when season 6 of “The Vampire Diaries” will premiere. However, each of the last five seasons have premiered in September or October, so it's likely to be in the fall of 2014.
