Ian Somerhalder has changed his Twitter profile picture as a reminder of his 2013 Birthday Project. The pic is a very powerful one of him ‘smoldering’ and very deep in thought. The text to the image explains ‘My wish this year-‘For my 35th birthday I have a simple goal…Imagine if 1 million of the 7 billion people on earth shared just $35 with the Ian Somerhalder Foundation we could stop wishing and create change. His tweet continues…’2 months away on December 8, is my BIRTHDAY PROJECT. For me it’s my crucial time in my life and the lives of us all for the type of change on our planet as well as in us that will move us compassionately and sustainably into our future. Please send this into the beautiful and powerful organism that is social media. RETWEET,repost,resend,respond- whatever moves this message onto EVERY media platform from here to outer space!! If I’ve ever asked for ANYTHING-I guarantee this time is the most important thing I’ve ever asked any human being much less 4,234,470!! I’m excited and grateful to be a part of this with you and watch the activation of the world create its own path. Let the change BEGIN! Copy and past this link isfoundation.org than click on GIVE. Thank you.’
Ian Somerhalder founded the Ian Somerhalder Foundation on his birthday in 2010 after the devastation and helplessness of the BP oil spill in his native Louisiana. The ISF as a very different poster for his birthday project, this one depicts the face of a very sad and hopeless gorilla in a cage. That text reads. ‘Imagine if all us who cared shared just $35 with the Ian Somerhalder Foundation we could finally open the cage doors in honor of our founder Ian Somerhalder’s 35th birthday. Support our goal to empower youth.
The ISF’s primary focus for donations is an animal shelter, sustainable farm and a youth education camp where youth can learn compassion from the animals, and find themselves in this highly supportive environment. The shelter will create ‘a safe haven for all outcast animals that have been neglected, mistreated and ultimately misunderstood. And to bring in youth who have behavioral problems such as bullying to have ‘a healing and educational journey side by side (which) has the power to manifest massive changes in perspective.’
