Ian Somerhalder is patiently awaiting new additions to his family and has been tweeting a great deal lately about being an expectant grandfather. What you say grandfather? Nietzsche, the dog that he rescued from traffic near the Vampire Diaries set is very pregnant and ready to deliver at any time.
The latest update from Ian on Twitter posted on October 7 reads ‘On puppy/mamma watch-on couch next to our little pregnant one. Any hour now. A beautiful yet brutal process –reminds me no more puppy mills (:’
The Humane Society says puppy mills are dogs raised to sell for profit and kept in ‘small wire cages with no human companionship, toys or comfort’. As of September 10, the US Department of Agriculture will oversee internet adoptions to make sure the animals sold have been treated humanely. Previously through a crack in the Federal Animal Welfare the only breeders that were visited were the ones that sold to pet shops. Now with this new law the USDA will be able to crack down on ‘mills’ that raise puppies in unsuitable conditions.
It sounds like he is using his off screen moments preparing for the big day. On the evening of October 6 he posted ‘Re-reading my birthday techniques from @the Jram (his personal assistant). Nietzsche Panola Somerhalder a matter of hours from dropping 8 little loves in the house.’ How does he know she’ll have eight puppies?
How did Nietzsche react to the premiere of Season 5 of the Vampire Diaries? Ian said ‘My little pregnant one is overwhelmed by episode #tvd pic twitter.com/vtj92Xkxo. It shows a pic of a very pregnant dog passed out on his bed.
The first mention of Nietzsche’s pregnancy Ian tweets ‘I am a GRANDPA! Am I too young???My Nietzsche with a little belly full of babies-about to reek havoc in our house….pic .twitter.com/4QAWY9jrV8. The picture below the tweet shows Ian hugging her pregnant belly very gently
Hopefully she delivers soon when Ian is at home and he thoroughly enjoys being a grandfather.
