Enjoying vacation time from school, my tween and I spent last Monday exploring State Street. After a morning of shopping, we stopped for refueling at Ian's Pizza, upon the recommendation of a helpful shopkeeper.
Like many pizza hawkers, Ian's sells pizza by the slice. However, Ian's has pizza flavors like we had never seen before. I advise you to keep an open mind while you read this article. Some of the toppings just have to be tasted before being dismissed.
Upon entering the deli-like counter, you will be amazed by the wide varieties of slices that are available. If you're an Ian's newbie, there's a sign posted to walk you through the ordering process. Basically, order a slice, pay for it, and then one of Ian's friendly staff will pop the slice into a pizza oven and then bring it - steaming hot - to your table.
I had heard a lot of folks rave about the macaroni and cheese pizza, so that's what I ordered. My tween daughter ordered a slice containing BBQ sauce, steak and french fries. (Yes, you did read that correctly...french fries.)
Our slices were huge! We "measured" one and it was 8 1/2" across at the widest point. My mac and cheese slice was gooey, with melted cheese that pulled like warm taffy strands, when bitten. The crust was crunchy, yet soft and doughy in the center. Daughter loved her slice which had many pieces of steak and four or five french fries for decorative purposes, I believe. We both exclaimed - with surprise - several times, how the bizarre toppings were in fact utterly delectable.
Lunch was economically priced at $9.00 for two slices and two cans of soda. The State Street location has comfy wooden booths for dining.
Seasonal specials now include:
- Grilled chicken mashed potato
- Breaded chicken mashed potato
- Spinach mashed potato
- Chicken cheddar bacon
- Chili cheese fritos
- Salad pizza
Another Ian's location is 319 N Frances St, Madison.
I advise you to take your family to Ian's soon. You won't be disappointed!
