The International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP) announced its first round of finalists for its annual awards last week.The awards recognize outstanding contributions to the culinary industry.
The nominees span 50 award categories including Cookbooks and IACP's first-ever New Media & Broadcast Awards. The nominees include well-known chefs and first-time cookbook authors.
IACP's cookbook awards have recognized culinary literature for 25 years; past honorees include Julia Child, Thomas Keller, Dorie Greenspan and Rick Bayless. Some highlights from this year's nominees include
- Andrew Carmellini's "American Flavor," and Lisa Fain's "Homesick Texan" in the American category.
- "Home Cooking with Jean-Georges" by Jean-Georges Vongerichten and "The Art of Living According to Joe Beef: A Cookbook of Sorts" by Frederic Morin, David Mcilland and Meredith Erickson in the Chefs & Restaurants category.
- Chef John Besh's newest cookbook, "My Family Table" will go up against "The Best Homemade Baby Food on the Planet" by Tina Ruggerio and "The Family Dinner" by Laurie David in the Children, Youth & Family category.
- "Ruhlman's Twenty" by Michael Ruhlman, "The Art of Beef Cutting" by Kari Underly and "Whole Beast Butchery" by Ryan Farr compete in the Food & Beverage Reference/Technical category.
- In the Food Matters category, "Tomatoland" by Barry Estabrook is nominated alongside "Wild Flavors: One Chef's Transformative Year Cooking from Eva's Farm" by Didi Emmons.
- The nominees for the General category include "All About Roasting" by Molly Stevens, "Essential Pepin" by Jacques Pepin and a second nomination for Besh's "My Family Table.
- The gastronomic encycylopedia "Modernist Cuisine" by Nathan Myrhvold was nominated in the Professional Kitchens category.
- For the first time, nine categories recognizing the best in New Media and Broadcast were created. The nominees for Culinary Blog include 5 Second Rule by Cheryl Sternman Rule, Bone Fide Farm Food by Tom Hirschfeld and Pizza Quest by Peter Reinhart.
- Chef Pepin's show "Essential Pepin" was nominated in the Televised Culinary Series category alongside Chef Ming Tsai's "Simply Ming."

The Awards Ceremony will take place on Monday, April 2 at 6 pm in the Times Center (242 W. 41st Street) in New York, hosted by Mo Rocca from Cooking Channel’s "Food(ography)" as part of IACP’s Annual Conference.
