Iaconelli and Pace neck and neck day 1 Bassmaster Classic

Tulsa, Oklahoma- Snow, sleet and pain. It’s all blood, sweat and tears to get where the professional bass anglers are today on Grand Lake in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Freezing cold and 2000 fans were at take-off. The world’s best anglers come together on Grand Lake in Tulsa, Oklahoma for the chance to win $500,000 at the Super Bowl of bass fishing the 2013 Bassmaster Classic, and it’s going to be a rocking tournament.

Randy Howell fished 14-15 on the first day of the 2013 Bassmasster Classic. “I’m the first one to weigh in today but I want to be the last one to weigh in on Sunday. That’s how you want it.”

First place is tied

You heard the fishing stories about Mike Iaconelli Pittsgrove, New Jersey all day if you watched the BASS tracker, blog and War Room on the Bassmaster website. Little did we know Cliff Pace Petal, Miss. was also sweeping the fish in. The two pro bass anglers braved the frozen tundra 20 degree temperatures and both brought in stringers of 21-8. We know from the Howes and Lanier duel on Lake Toho in Florida there are no ties in Bassmaster tournaments. Icaonelli and Pace have two more days of Classic fishing to pull their nose out in front of the pack and take the lead.

Are you sitting on the edge of your seat

Just nine ounces behind in second place from Maiden, N.C. Hank Cherry fished 20-15 on the Lake o’ the Cherokees. It’s good to see The (four-time Bassmaster Class Champion) VanDam Kalamazoo, Mich. in third place, technically in fourth place with 19-12. Bass fishing pro Tracey Adams Wilkesboro, N.C. is in fifth place a mere 2 ounces behind Kevin with 19-10. Backyard Bonus Jason Christie who has fished Grand Lake all of his life, is in sixth place with 18-12.

Carhart Big Bass goes to Mark Pierce Clarkesville, TN for a seven pound, four ounce fat bass.

7- Jonathan Carter 18-11

8- Marty Robinson 18-8

9- Mike McClelland 17-15

10- Edwin Evers 16-13

Saturday the 50-something field goes down to 25 anglers on Grand Lake. The forecast is calling for temperatures slightly warmer, let’s hope so because 7 AM boat launch was 20 degrees this morning and it’s hard to hang on to your rod and a fat bass with crunchy fingers. With a $500,000 check waiting on Sunday for the winner it makes holding on to that ice cold rod a little easier.

Stay warm inside the free and family friendly Bassmaster Classic Outdoor Expo at the Tulsa Convention Center 10 AM-7 Pm CT. BOK Center opens at 3 Pm CT for weigh-in.

Watch the Bassmaster Classic from the warmth of your own lazyboy on ESPN2 beginning March 2, 2013 at 9 AM ET, with the final two-days airing March 3, 6 AM to noon.
