I wouldn't buy the Samsung Continuum.

So I went to the Samsung Android unveiling event and the Continuum was announced. It will be available for pre-order from Verizon on November 11. Pricing will be ~$200. This phone is very similar to the Samsung Fascinate in functionality.

Here are the specs:

  1. 3.4” WVGA Amoled display
  2. 1.8” ticker display (96×400)
  3. Verizon VZ Navigator
  4. Bing Search and Bing Maps
  5. 1GHZ Hummingbird Processor
  6. 512MB ROM, 384MB RAM
  7. 5 megapixel rear camera
  8. 3G Mobile Hotspot
  9. Android 2.1
  10. 720p Camcorder
  11. Swype
  12. A-GPS
  13. LED Flash

Some interesting points about the Secondary Ticker:

  • Grip Sensor activates ticker even if phone is sleeping
  • Ticker can be swiped to reveal more information
  • Date, Time and Weather
  • RSS Feed
  • Text Messages
  • Missed calls (Answer/Ignore) calls
  • Ticker History
  • Music Control
  • The ticker uses less battery power. Battery power ~36 hours

Text messages look similar to Handcent SMS with the Bubble-like text messages.

I have to admit I was really disappointed in this phone. Android 2.1 is about two generations behind the current OS (Gingerbread should be launching within the next couple of weeks). Screen should be bigger since the ticker is 1.8 inches. Static buttons like menu, home, search and back are above the ticker. It seems like that should be on the bottom and ticker should appear when needed and disappear to have a larger screen area when using the regular phone. Since the Phone also comes with Bing, voice search capabilities are not as advanced. We will see how the phone does since the Galaxy S series has sold more than 3million units in the US. Check out the slide show.
