“15 I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. 16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth. 17 So God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth.” Genesis 9:15-17)
God establishes His covenant and keeps the terms throughout eternity. God spoke a covenant to Noah and his family to save them from the flood. The flood destroyed every living thing on earth except those on the ark. He made another covenant to never flood the earth again to destroy it. God not only made a binding agreement with the living on earth, but He set forth a sign, the rainbow, as a reminder of it.
Believers in Jesus Christ are in a covenant relationship with God, the Father. He hears the confession that Jesus is Lord and affirms the relationship by sending the Holy Spirit, an agreement seal, to live in them. Faith is the foundation, and salvation is the outcome of it. Christ Jesus sealed the covenant with His shed blood for the sins of the world. Everlasting life is to be fulfilled for those joining this covenant.
Challenge: Believer in Jesus, the Holy Spirit has been given as a fulfillment of God’s promises in His covenant. The rainbow is still a sign to us so we do should remember God’s salvation plan toward the whole earth.
