MTV has made a bold move to further embrace modern technology by releasing a full season for one of its shows on the channel's mobile app, The Associated Press is reporting today. The show, “Wait ‘Til Next Year,” is about a woebegone high school football team – one that had lost 43 games in a row.
This unique distribution method has been compared to Netflix’s recent decision to put out a full “House of Cards” season all at once. Back in June, MTV made its app is available on iPhones, iPads, iPods and the Xbox 360. So far, the app has accumulated 2 million downloads.
“It will be fun to see if we can get them to come back and watch on television,” MTV’s executive vice president, Kristin Frank, was quoted in the story. This is not the first time MTV has experimented with AppTV, so to speak. The network also recently released extras from its “Miley: The Movement” documentary on the app.
Now, let's hope we can also get actual music back on the channel.
