When you’ve been to the mountain top, everybody knows it! When you’ve been able to rise above your surroundings; your troubles; the voices in your head; the opinions of others; the distractions of life…when you can separate yourself to be in the total presence of God, there will be a life changing experience. You can’t go to the mountain top and come down empty; come down uninspired; come down unmoved! Everyone will know that you’ve been to the mountain top!
Jesus had separated Himself and gone to the mountain to pray. When He came down, He walked on the water. He had been with God. Nothing is impossible when you’ve been with God. You say, "Well that’s Jesus! Of course Jesus would be able to perform miracles." But look at Moses (Exodus 3:1-2), at Horeb, the Mountain of God. Moses had an encounter with God, where he received an assignment, with instructions and assurance that God would equip him to do what he needed to do.
It was at the mountain top where Abraham realized that God was truly a Provider. When God instructed him to sacrifice his son Isaac, as a burnt offering; just as he was to take the knife and slay his son, God had provided a ram in the bush. It was because of Abraham’s obedience, that he was able to experience God on another level…He didn’t ask anyone’s opinion about going to the mountain. He didn’t take others up with him.
It was the mountain top where Moses received the commandments. It was the mountain where Jesus fed the four thousand, plus women and children, with only seven loaves and a few little fishes (Matt. 15:33-38)
You don’t literally need to go to the top of a physical mountain in order to have a mountain top experience. You need to separate yourself from the hustle and bustle; taking your mind off of the troubles of the world; shut your ears to the opinions of others; stop listening to the many voices your hear; and turn your back to the distractions of the world……Then purpose to get into the presence of God. Just you, and God.
The experience that comes with intimate, private, uninterrupted time with God is unexplainable, incomprehensible, unthinkable, inconceivable, unimaginable, incredible and beyond belief!
Don’t you want to really experience God? The Lord would like to have a mountain top experience with you; but only you…you can’t take anything or anyone with you! Go on up, you know you want to!
“…He departed into a mountain to pray….and about the fourth watch of the night He cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed them by.” Mark 6:46b, 48b
