"I've been stolen." That's the heartbreaking message from a little girl who was found safe after being kidnapped. Fortunately her harrowing experience had a happy ending, and Nailla Robinson is back home with her family. The five-year-old girl had been abducted by a woman who claimed to be her mother, according to a Jan. 15, 2013 report by The Christian Science Monitor.
The Upper Darby, Penn. girl was reported missing on Monday. She was found on Tuesday morning at 4:40 a.m. Oddly enough, she was discovered hiding under a slide on a playground after being removed from William C. Bryant school the previous day. She told the man who found her, "I've been stolen." Nelson Mandela Myers, a 27-year-old sanitation worker with a young daughter of his own, discovered the girl after hearing her cries for help. The little girl was wearing only a damp t-shirt. An examination at a local hospital revealed that she was not injured and not suffering from hypothermia. However, she is being screened for potential sexual assault. GMA via Yahoo! News reported that the girl was led blindfolded for several blocks until she reached a house. Later, a teenager walked her from the home to the playground where she was found.
School policy was not followed when the little girl was released into the care of a woman who was not her mother. The incident is being investigated, and school policy is being reinforced with staff at the school.
The little girl who said, "I've been stolen" was obviously aware of what had happened and that the woman who removed her from the school grounds was not her mother. Both her mother and her abductor wear traditional Muslim garb, a chador and niqab. The mystery woman was seen on surveillance video but was not identified. It is believed that the woman knew the victim as she called Nailla by name, but the victim did not know her abductor.
