There’s nothing like a summer fair to appeal to the curiosity-seeking amusement-loving inner child in everyone. Where else but at a fair can you experience pig racing, skate/BMX half-pipes, travel photography, splash dog leaping contests or the world’s largest alligator? All this great fun from which to choose- while munching on a powdered sugar-dusted funnel cake or a snappy Pink’s hot dog?
That’s right, it is once again time for the summertime classic- the OC Fair 2014- open July 11- Aug 10 Wed-Sun. There’s even a way for thrift’n-istas to use their second-handing skills to get some free fair admission tickets. Check out the OC Fair 2014 website (www.ocfair.com) for various money-saving promotions, specifically We Care Wednesdays.
On Wed July 16 from noon-3pm, there is free admission for each person who donates 5 cans of food. At the same times on the next Wed July 23, bring 1 new children’s book or 3 gently used children’s books for that free admission.
The next Wednesday is Clothing Drive Wednesday on July 30. Each person that donates 5 new or gently used clothing items will get through those beckoning fair doors for free. Plus all those clothing donations go to the thrifting giant Goodwill Stores (though last year I swear I saw a pig in the Centennial Farm wearing one of my donated T-shirts! Kidding!)
The final We Care Wednesday is on Aug 6 and is the School Supply Drive. Any person donating $5 or more of new school supplies gets in free, though a receipt must be provided as proof. (Pens, pencils, crayons, backpacks, notebooks are all acceptable). Donations for any of these We Care Wednesday promotions are to be done at the Blue Gate, Yellow Gate or Green Gate only.
So do not let your summer slip away without a visit to the OC Fair 2014- and use your thriftiness to get through those doors for FREE.
