There is nothing better on a warm summer day than a delicious dish of Italian, freshly made gelato in a variety of flavors that just reading will make you drool. At Crush on State St. in Boston's Financial District, owner Tony Naser is removing windows on the street to put in accordian-style windows opening to the street to make it easier for you to walk up, pick your flavor and walk away!
The small (two scoops) starts at $3.25, medium (three scoops) at $4.25, and the large (four scoops) hails at $5.25. The top selling flavors are anything but the norm. One can choose from the outrageous Blackberry Lemon Basil, to the classic Americhino Cherry (specifically imported from a select region in Italy) or venture to the refreshing Lemon Grisbi (an Italian cookie) for a decadent treat. Other flavors include: Hazelnut, Strawberry and Creme, Avocado (seasonal), Lemon Grisbi, Chocolate Brownie, Reese's (Crush makes their own peanut butter gelato then add the Reese’s), Pistachio Almond, Coconut, M&M, Tiramisu, Black Cherry, Maraschino Cherry, Blood Orange (seasonal), Carmel Brownie, Pink Grapefruit, Mango Sorbet, and of course Chocolate!
There's also the freshly made Neapolitan pizza, available in 90 seconds from the super hot wood-fired oven, a D.O.C. pizza that with toppings you choose from a toppings bar so you get exactly what you want. Tony makes the dough fresh daily from imported Italian flour and the sauce from crushed San Marzano tomatoes.
