I'm Not Lucky - A Devotion

I'm Not Lucky

Ephesians 1:3-5 (NLT)
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.

If I gave you a treasure map today with a series of steps that would result in buried treasure, I assure you that it would become the primary focus of your life. It perhaps I directed you to the end of the rainbow with the promise that there would be a pot of gold, you may or may not attempt to find it based on how much you trusted my word. Every day people play the lottery hoping to become rich and win a big fat check, but I wonder if this stroke of good luck would indeed bring the happiness and satisfaction that they are after. After all, isn’t that why we pursue the wealth of this world in conjunction with our need for personal satisfaction? We are green with envy when the rich get richer and the poor get poorer especially if we find ourselves in the latter. We will never be content until our heart is satisfied but society has told us that every product marketed will do it and nothing could be further from the truth. We have everything that we need to be satisfied but just don’t know how to use it. We have been given a measure of faith. (Romans 12:2) We have Eternity written on our heart. (Ecclesiastes 3:11) If we can use one to secure the other – we will be blessed. There is no such thing as luck to a believer. Our course is charted. Our life marked out. It all leads to blessing. The trouble is everyone wants the blessing of the Lord but not everyone wants Jesus. Blessing is the inheritance of God’s Children ordained for those who have come to Him through Jesus Christ. It is the spirit of adoption that secures every success that was prescribed according to your purpose when God planned your life before He created you. You are not the development of a random multiplication of cells but a person created for God’s Purpose. His Purpose was to love you and live in a relationship with you. God desires to bless you because He delights in you just as a parent delights in their precious children. He takes pleasure in you so why settle for luck when the blessing of God is available to you?

Matthew 5:45 (NLT)
In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike.

If it is true that God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the Heavenly realms than why aren’t we walking in it today? The sunlight is given to the evil and good. God sends rain on the just and unjust alike. God is definitely doing His Part so it is up to us to do our part to secure the blessings of God in our life and given up random thinking and circumstantial complacency. It is our right to boldly go before the Throne of God as His Children and request His Blessing because it belongs to us once we have accessed it through the Blood of Jesus Christ through repentance. Repentance is turning from evil to pursue good. It means to choose justice rather than settling for injustice. This produces the spiritual blessing that we are after based on our connection to the supernatural which always overcomes natural circumstances.

Deuteronomy 28:1-10 (NLT)
“If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully keep all his commands that I am giving you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the world. You will experience all these blessings if you obey the LORD your God: Your towns and your fields will be blessed. Your children and your crops will be blessed. The offspring of your herds and flocks will be blessed. Your fruit baskets and breadboards will be blessed. Wherever you go and whatever you do, you will be blessed. The LORD will conquer your enemies when they attack you. They will attack you from one direction, but they will scatter from you in seven! The LORD will guarantee a blessing on everything you do and will fill your storehouses with grain. The LORD your God will bless you in the land he is giving you. If you obey the commands of the LORD your God and walk in his ways, the LORD will establish you as his holy people as he swore he would do. Then all the nations of the world will see that you are a people claimed by the LORD, and they will stand in awe of you.”

The primary reason most believers are not blessed is because they choose a random lifestyle. The definition of random is to lack a plan or prearranged order. You were not created to live such an existence. You are created with a plan and purpose that is meant for good with a future and hope. God has given you everything necessary to be prosperous in all that you do. The only catch is that you have to live according to God’s Plan. “If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully keep all His Commands…you will experience all these blessings…” We want the blessings of God reserved for those consecrated and dedicated to the Lord but many do not want to invest their time, talent and treasure in doing so. There are many frustrated and discontent Christians who have tried to do right without being righteous as well. God intends to bless you. Do you intend to serve the Lord? Obedience changes the course of our life from experiencing good times and bad to walking in the blessing and prosperity of the Lord according to His Word. If you decide to become faithful in doing so, then you will develop something called confident hope which will keep you in place until your life adds up to everything God has promised. The Lord is working every single detail of our life for good. (Romans 8:28) Hang on…it says for those called to His Purpose. God is perfecting all that concerns you (Psalm 138:8). This means that people must walk in His Footsteps rather than rebelling when times get tough or it takes too long showing a desire for what God has over anything else this world has to offer. Luck is nothing more than a combination of circumstances with a random outcome. Blessing is a predetermined outcome for your good. Luck is the force that operates absent of life in the Spirit. It can result in good or bad depending on the course we choose to take driven by self. But life in the Spirit is a guarantee that all God has promised belongs to me. (2 Corinthians 1:22) Luck describes circumstances that are beyond our control subject to chance. This is not the life of a Child of God who is called blessed from the beginning. God grants His Children happiness, joy, health, peace and prosperity as an inheritance. It is a binding covenant that operates every day of our life and never changes. It protects us from evil. To be blessed is to be consecrated to God so that He can bestow good of every kind. This is the life of the chosen and you are indeed chosen by the Lord. If you learn to live in the blessing of God, you will experience the prosperity of God and great success in everything you do according to His Will, Way and Word for your life.

Matthew 16:17-18 (NLT)
Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being. Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.

Revelation knowledge of the person of Jesus Christ allows us total access to the blessings of God and to escape from the random mediocrity of life. We receive this change of outcomes by faith in Jesus Christ. To know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and believe that He died for our sins and God raised Him from the dead is the power of salvation. Once we plant our faith in Jesus Christ, we begin to grow and mature something called hope. Hope looks past what we seen in the natural to what we know in the supernatural. If you do not know Jesus, there will never be more to see than the rest of your natural life. But in Jesus Christ, forever is secured. Now we can live in reckless faith and abandon our own pursuits to passionately pursue God’s Goodness for His People. We did not have this privilege before Jesus as we were condemned to die and rebellious wanders trying to scavenge the crumbs under his table but now we feast in the midst of our enemies! We have nothing to lose and everything to gain walking His Way. God empowers such people to locate his potential and power and walk in it daily. They will prosper in everything they do no matter what the natural season of their life appears to be. They will flourish in adversity. They will not grow weak or weary, but will have the power to endure until every detail is turned for their good and God has perfected their path. (Jeremiah 17:7-8) The Blessings of God are not random acts of His Kindness. They are produced when we decide to put faith and trust in the Lord and confident hope is cultivated. This means hanging on in the midst of pain, hardship and struggle just to have His Blessing above all else. (Genesis 32:24-28) Strive for His Blessing, do not settle for luck today.

Malachi 3:9-12 (NLT)
You are under a curse, for your whole nation has been cheating me. Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test! Your crops will be abundant, for I will guard them from insects and disease. Your grapes will not fall from the vine before they are ripe,” says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies. “Then all nations will call you blessed, for your land will be such a delight,” says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies.”

Have you been cheating God? Have you deprived Him of your life? Before you shut down, like most people do during the offering at church when this scripture is so overused, stop and listen for just a moment. The tithe that God is after is not only your money. Maybe you don’t have any or are not ready to give that up yet. What about the tithe of your life to the Lord? Tithing is to give God a portion of your time, talent and treasure. The Lord says, “Bring ALL your tithes into the storehouse…” Money is not the only tithe. In fact, if you start tithing your time by spending it in the Word rather immersed in television or social media, it will change your mind about giving as it is renewed and transformed by the washing of the Word. You will see the blessings of God as the Holy Spirit takes the Word of God turning it into knowledge that will become wisdom when we use it. God is offering you prosperity. Prosperity begins with the soul. (3 John 1:2) The trouble is we try to use God to increase our bank account like some multilevel marketing plan rather than getting to know who He is and what He really desires to do in our life. We tithe. We have tithed for many years. We have sown seeds in offering that have not come back to us yet I know that they will. But what I have learned in the process of obedience is that it is not the tangible things of God that I need but a made up mind and satisfied heart that will produce the greatest blessing in my life. Money cannot cure cancer. Yes, it helps along the way but even if God backed a dump truck full of cash up to my front door and emptied in our front yard it would not heal our son of cancer. Although it could buy things to comfort us in the midst of such crisis, only His Peace could keep us from losing our mind or succumbing to the overwhelming fear when faced with the possibility of loss. It could give us the best medical care that this world had to offer, but healing can only come from the Lord so it is more important that we are aligned with God’s Will, Way and Word. God wants all of us – body, mind and spirit. If you are not comfortable giving up your money, don’t worry He will work on your heart as you give Him your time. Then He will become your treasure so you will invest into the Kingdom as well. You will see that He is defining your purpose so you will give Him your talent, too until finally we are located in His Presence and His Blessing becomes our reward.

Jeremiah 22:14-16 (NLT)
He says, ‘I will build a magnificent palace with huge rooms and many windows.
I will panel it throughout with fragrant cedar and paint it a lovely red.’ But a beautiful cedar palace does not make a great king! Your father, Josiah, also had plenty to eat and drink. But he was just and right in all his dealings. That is why God blessed him. He gave justice and help to the poor and needy, and everything went well for him. Isn’t that what it means to know me?” says the LORD.

Read this for the first time today, and I love it. We desire success in life. God is not impressed with all of that. His Purpose in our life is simply this. “He gave justice and help to the poor and needy and everything went well for him. Isn’t that what it means to know me?” To be blessed by God does not require religious obedience to fulfill an oppressive obligation to God for His Son’s Sacrifice. There is nothing you can ever do to be righteous other than have faith in Jesus Christ. Once you do, you are granted the Favor of God that leads to all blessing if it is the intent of our heart to serve Him more. Even when we think what we are “doing” pleases the Lord, He is expressly looking at our heart to first see if we love Him and second to see if we love Him enough to love everyone else. Blessing is found just by knowing Him more. The more we know the Lord the more that you will desire to please Him. Obedience is not an obligation but an opportunity to discover the blessings of God for our life.

Psalm 139:1-6(NLT)
O LORD, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, LORD. You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand!

The Lord has His Hand of Blessing on your head today. He is examining your heart moment by moment looking for a reason to bless you because He has purposed to do so. He sees when we are obedient and when we rebel, His Hand does not move from our head. He sees when we stay close and try to move away. His Hand does not move from our head. He sees everything we do, yet His Hand does not move from our head. He goes before you and waits for you to catch up. His Hand does not move from our head. He follows behind us making sure we are safe because His Hand does not move from our head. It is the Lord’s Intention to bless you every moment of every single day – such knowledge is indeed too wonderful and too great for us to understand so most of the time we settle for luck rather than pursing the plan of God for our life wholeheartedly. So today, let the Irish keep their luck and choose to walk in the Blessing of God found in His Presence and reserved for His Children! Tell others around you, “I am not lucky, I am blessed!”

Ephesians 3:6-7 (NLT)
And this is God’s plan: Both Gentiles and Jews who believe the Good News share equally in the riches inherited by God’s children. Both are part of the same body, and both enjoy the promise of blessings because they belong to Christ Jesus. By God’s grace and mighty power, I have been given the privilege of serving him by spreading this Good News.
