Actually, it’s Southern New England that’s the problem. These things don’t take place in Vermont.
First there is the Dudleytown Curse, now the The Tillinghast Nightmare. What, is this region the Republic of Lovecraftia? The plot twist that will really grab you in the Tillinghast Nightmare is when dad serves up the burnt ashes of a daughter's heart to obviate a curse. Not exactly gourmet fare, but as horror, spot on. No matter how dysfunctional your family was, I doubt your father ever did that. My old man reserved it for special occasions.
Anyway, Alec Asten wants to frighten you. He’s done it in film before starting as a kid with the family’s 8mm Bell & Howell. He likes that haunting story you might hear around the campfire. In the Tillinghast Nightmare, he has that tale to keep you awake in your sleeping bag.
By late 1799, seven members of the Tillinghast family mysteriously died. To preserve the life of those remaining, the father exhumed his six children. When he came to Sarah's grave, (the first one to die), he cut out her heart, burned it and had the rest of the family consume her ashes to ward of the evil.
According to Alec, “His actions were not unique. There are 60 reported exhumations of suspected vampires in North America.” I didn’t know that, did you? The Tillinghast event really happened. Are the supernatural aspects true? Maybe you will want to see the movie.
