I Loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghetti  by Giulia Melucci

Through her life, Giulia Melucci, had many loves whom she attempted to woo with her Italian cooking ability.  The daughter of a an Italian father and Italian-American mother she had been immersed in food all of her life.  Food was her comfort and she turned to it often. 

Various men are woven into Melucci's memoir; from a man much older than her, to an alcoholic.  Her recipes are woven throughout the book.  A lot of the recipes are similar but are very tasty.  The menus are usually written for a serving of one or two which is great for those looking for recipes that serve only a couple of people. 

Melucci has great insight into the love of cooking.  My favorite passage from the book is: "I learned that you do not need fancy cookware and a restaurant-grade range to make delicious food; the only true essentials to good cooking are fine ingredients and a sense of how to use them.  This you get from cooking on your own, watching others, and eating as many different types of food and preparations as you can."  That is great culinary philosophy to have!  

Spaghetti, as I affectionately call it, reads somewhat like a watered down Sex in the City which is a good thing.  You don't get all the explicitness as in a Candace Bushnell novel.  It's a fun, lighthearted read that I would recommend.
