NeNe and Gregg have decided to tie the knot…again. Maybe the second time around will be the best time. The two went through a very public divorce a couple of seasons ago on The Real Housewives of Atlanta and Gregg has been working double time to get back into the heart and house of NeNe Leakes. He kept asking for a spare house key, if anyone remembers. So now Bravo thought it would be a bonus to do a series focused on the process it took to get this couple back down to the altar. That Andy Cohen is a spin-off whore for all things housewives. Even Tamra Barney-Judge, from the Orange County franchise, just finished her own wedding spinoff last week.
So why should anyone care about NeNe and Gregg getting remarried? What can they do to keep the viewers interested? I imagine the meeting with the producers went something like this:
Producer: So, Bravo will fund this over the top wedding, ok guys?
NeNe: Oh, y’all paying for it? Ok, cool, then it’s going to be a big wedding for about
a million dollars. Will that work?
Producer: If we’re paying that much what secrets can you reveal for us? We need some
major drama for that kinda scratch. So what’cha got?
NeNe: Um…um…how about we bring in Gregg’s grown children from his first
marriage that we never ever talked about before?
Producer: Ok, ok. What else? This is a lot of money. We’re going to need more.
NeNe: Gregg and I can see a therapist, get into a ghetto fight and we can throw in a
prenup and argue about that, even though we already know he’s gonna sign one.
Throw in a few of my celebrity friends like attention seeking Donald Trump, Cynthia Bailey and some cuckoo bridesmaids like Marlo who can do the fighting when I’m too tired. How is that ?
Producer: Sounds like a winner to me!
Although the first episode was a bit of a snooze fest it looks like it’ll pick up in the next episode when one of Gregg’s grown children from the previous marriage has an altercation with NeNe. The prenup was introduced but not yet discussed between the two. However, it was really interesting that NeNe told the entire world on the radio airwaves that Gregg will indeed sign a prenuptial agreement, but was too afraid to bring up the topic with him one-on-one. That was totally disrespectful.
The elephant in the room that NeNe and Gregg managed to talk around was what caused the divorce in the first place. NeNe hinted that Gregg took her for granted, that he lied about something (Money? Cheated? Not sure), but no one comes right out and reveals it so the viewers will have to believe whatever they want in that respect.
You can catch all episodes of I Dream of NeNe: The Wedding every Tuesday night on Bravo TV 9ct/10est.
