Ken (“Stillness”) is the last of the Four Yang Trigrams. Working from bottom to top, it is composed of Two open (Yin) lines followed by a final top solid (Yang) line. I Means something like "mOUNTAIN".
In Fu Hsi’s Chart, known as the Earlier Heaven, Ken is in the NorthWest, denoting late Autumn. Wiccans and Pagans honor this Time of waning Light with the holiday of Samhain, on November First. This denotes a Time when the veil between worlds is lifted, just a little. Ken is here the third son, between Kun and Kan.
In Yu’s Diagram, Ken is in the NorthEast, opposite Kun, and represents an aspect of the Earth Element. Ken symbolizes, depending on the situation, either obstruction or completion.
On the Kabbalistic tree of Life, Netzach and the Planet Venus correlate rather well.
Confucius says of this:
Ken suggests the emblem of a mountain; of a by-path; of a small rock; of a gateway; of the fruits of trees and creeping plants; of a porter or a eunuch; of the finger; of the dog; of the rat; of birds with powerful bills; among trees, of those which are strong, with many joints.
Ham, the third son of Noah, also has a bit of a bad reputation. There is a bizarre story in Genesis where “curses” his son Ham, and Ham’s son Canaan. Of course, most of the enemies of the Jews were descendents of Ham.
