“But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.”(Luke 2:10)
The shepherds in the book of Luke were tending the flock. They had lowly positions and were being faithful to the task. Just imagine being on your job or in school and suddenly messengers from God appeared. What would be your reaction? Fear, excitement, and/or calmness may be a response. The angels wanted the response to not be fear. Why? They had good news that was to have a joyful reception. The joy was for every one who heard it.
The good news is Jesus, God’s only Son. Jesus was born in remarkable circumstances. His mother, a virgin, had conceived by the Holy Spirit. The wonder of Christ’s birth, life, death, and resurrection has brought great joy to all especially to believers. Believers have the opportunity now to spread the extraordinary message of the gospel around the world. Others must hear and have the chance to believe in faith.
Challenge: Believers, let Christmas be a reminder of the wondrous work of God in Jesus Christ. Also, let your response be to share God’s indescribable gift of the gospel with others.
