I am going to die soon*

Life has been so busy lately with family, church, working on my website, that I have barely taken time to notice how terrible the Dallas Cowboys are doing this year.  I have yet to watch one game because it's difficult to watch the Cowboys lose.  Who wants to invest their time in a losing team?  That could be why I have not been interested in the Texas Rangers.

While growing up in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, the Dallas Cowboys typically won more games than they lost.  Cowboy's fans remember the excitement of going to the Super Bowl in the 70's and 80's.  The fun of watching with family and friends, as well as the thrill of having a world-class winning team everyone could be proud of.

It was never that way with the Texas Rangers.  Long, boring games often ended with the dred of an even longer season that would never culminate in anything worth mentioning.  We Texas Rangers fans had little to brag about.   Yes Nolan Ryan  did pitch in his senior years, and there were a few other notable mentions, but the World Series was always a competition for other teams, other cities ... not us.

That's why most local fans looked forward to the Super Bowl every year.  That was a realistic goal.  At least it was in the past.  Now we're not so sure.  Maybe next decade.

Because the 'boys have been doing so poorly, and baseball playoffs never catch my attention, I was surprised to find out that the Texas Rangers were playing the New York Yankees in the playoffs - and winning!  I had no idea the current team was that good.  I also had no idea that we were one competition away from going to the World Series ... if we could beat the Yankees.

Yeah right!  The Rangers beat the Yankees?!   "They're up by 7," my next door neighbor informed me.

"No Way!  How is that possible?!," I reasoned.

Then it occured to me: if they are good enough to get that far, to play the NY Yankees for the chance to go to the World Series, then maybe they did have a chance of winning after all.

But how could they?  The Rangers have never been to the World Series.  They never have, and they never will.  At least not in my lifetime.  I mean c'mon!  The Rangers?!  The Texas Rangers?!  Out of Arlington, TX?!

It's not going to happen.  It can't happen, because if it does that means I'm going to die soon.

Well much to my delight, or perhaps my demise, the Texas Rangers are now up 3-1 in the series.  One more win and nothing short of the apocalypse will keep them from going to the World Series.   And if they can beat the Yankees 10 to 3, and even shut them out 8 - 0, in Yankee Stadium, then they could come home with the crown.

So as part of my last will and testament, I, Réne Evan Girard, being of blown-away mind and body, do hereby bequeath all of my earthly goods to those who will surely pilage and plunder in victory celebration because they believe they can get away with it ... because it's the end of the world ... or at least my world ... because I swore there was no way the Texas Rangers would ever make it to the World Series, much less win it, in my lifetime.

Yep. I'm a dead man.

Death comes to us all.  Unless Christ comes back within our lifetime, we will all face death before facing Him.  If you have not taken the time to repent of your sins, allowing God to forgive you of your sins, accepting Jesus' sacrifice on the cross as the penalty for your sins, then keep in mind that it is not too late.  As long as you have breath it is not too late.

If you are going to die, please ask your healthcare professional about Hospice and Palliative care. It will be a much more pleasent death.
