I Am Bruce Lee: A film dedicated to a martial arts legend

Yesterday, during the month of his son Brandon's birth, a documentary movie about Bruce Lee debuted at selected theatres across the United States.  I Am Bruce Lee, was made possible by D and E Entertainment.  The production company creates visually and cinematically stunning documentaries about the entertainment, music and sports world.

The film, to be shown on February 9 and 15, features contemporary students and fans of the martial arts such as UFC promoter Dana White, NBA superstar and martial artist Kobe Bryant, boxing great Manny Pacquiao, mixed martial artists Jon Jones and Cung Le as well as many, many others who have had their lives touched by Lee's great influence and revolutionary thinking about martial arts and life in general.

No Canadian dates were set for the February 9 showing but it was seen at more than 150 theatres in the United States.  The world premiere of the film was held in Vancouver on Wednesday, February 8.

A second showing of the film is set for February 15, 2012.  Check the D and E Entertainment website for a theatre near you or send an email to request a showing at a theatre in your area.  Select Cineplex Theatres across Canada will film the movie on March 8 and 17.

The film's purpose is not only to highlight the great films Bruce Lee made while he was in Hing Kong and North America, but also to remember and pay tribute to the most influential figure in the martial arts world ever to live. Lee's slight stature hid a powerful, enigmatic energy that allowed him to strike as fast as lightning, move as quickly as a cat, and display far morestrength than a man twice his size.  His great mental capacity allowed him to truly be a student of the martial arts and he produced many volumes of written work including his Tao of Jeet Kune Do.

The film is a series of interviews with people from the entertainment scene, the athletic community, and those who were close friends and family to the man himself.  His wife Linda Lee Caldwell, and daughter, Shannon Lee appear in the film along with martial arts legends Dan Inosanto, Bob Wall, Gene LeBell and others.  More information about the film can be found here

Bruce Lee's untimely death at 32-years-old left a chasm of uncertainty and mystery surrounding his legendary martial arts status.   His short film career managed to start something that the world had never seen before, though.  His work in an incomplete 5 films launched a whole genre of movies submersed in the martial arts which lives to this day with the likes of Jackie Chan and Jet Li among others.
