Mr. Cohen recently returned from southern Italy, where he was an artist in residence for several months. The resulting work from this time reflects his continuing investigation of philosophical inquiries into both the nature of paint and human perception.
Most of his paintings explore new possibilities of the medium, with paint serving as a surface and support while also addressing the physical body of the medium in attempt to add to the conversation of art.
Applied with multi layers of colors and sweat, hundreds upon hundreds of layers, the paint shifts the aboutness of the work to focus more on the physical nature of the medium rather than the traditional chromatic nature.
