A man known as the "I-55 Bandit" is now being sought after by the FBI, and they are looking for the public's help in catching him. ABC News reported on Sept. 11, 2013, that the I-55 bank robber is suspected in as many as 10 robberies across five different states.
The I-55 Bandit has been described as a white male in his early to mid-20s, standing about 6'3" inches tall, and he has brown or strawberry blond hair.
The police believe he has hit banks in Illinois, Maryland, Tennessee, West Virginia and Missouri. Last month, he was suspected of robbing three banks in Tennessee alone.
“We have seen cases, it’s more rare, when the bank robber goes across the country and different states,” FBI spokeswoman Rebecca Wu told ABC News.
For each of the cases of the I-55 bank robber, he has been seen on surveillance cameras walking into banks in a calm manner. He almost always has on a hat and/or a pair of sunglasses. He advises tellers that he is armed and slips them a note demanding money.
“Whatever the instructions may be by the bad guy, they’re instructed to follow,” former FBI agent and ABC News consultant Brad Garrett said.
The FBI has not released information as to whether or not he is actually armed, if anyone has been hurt in the robberies, or just how much money he has taken.
It is the belief of the FBI that he is going to keep trying to rob more banks, and the more he robs, the more chance there is that he will get caught.
