The I-55 bank robber was arrested after the FBI released a campaign calling for the public's help to capture the man they say is responsible for more than 10 robberies in the Midwest. On Sept. 11, the Christian Science Monitor reported that 19-year-old Andrew Maberry turned himself in less than 24 hours after the campaign began.
"The FBI says Maberry is suspected of 10 robberies and attempts at two other banks since May in Illinois, Missouri, Maryland, West Virginia and Tennessee," the Christian Science Monitor reported. Since a few of these incidents occurred on or near the I-55 Interstate, Maberry was given the nickname "I-55 Bandit."
The I-55 bank robber has been charged on one federal count of bank robbery so far. While he is suspected of hitting up several other bank branches this summer, evidence against him is still being compiled. It is unknown how much money Maberry got away with but he was successful in robbing several banks from Missouri to Maryland.
At this point in time it is unclear whether or not Maberry has an attorney. There is video surveillance of him in various banks and at teller windows during robberies. It's going to be very hard for him to get off on any charges.
The I-55 bank robber is off the streets and will be heading to court soon.
