The I-40 crash, which took the lives of eight people and injured 14 others, happened when a church bus filled with elderly people, blew a tire on the highway. This started a chain reaction accident on a stretch of I-40, which sent the bus veering into the path of a tractor trailer truck and a SUV, according to “Fox and Friends” live on Thursday morning, Oct. 3.
WATE News in Knoxville Tennessee reports that all lanes of Interstate 40 reopened in Jefferson County early this morning. I-40 remained closed for 15 hours after the accident.
Investigators report that the bus was traveling eastbound on I-40 when its left front tire popped. The bus crashed through a median barricade before hitting a tractor trailer truck and a SUV with a boat trailer in tow in the westbound lanes.
When the vehicles came to rest the bus was on its side and the tractor trailer had burst into flames. This horrific accident is still under investigation today. A briefing on the accident will happen Thursday morning in a televised press conference. Channel 6 News out of Tennessee will provide live coverage.
