ORIGINAL RECALL REPORT
Hyundai and the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced this week , Dec.18, that Hyundai would be recalling approximately 13,500 of their popular 2012 Veloster vehicles equipped with panoramic sunroofs.
A problem with the robotic installation process may have weakened the sunroof assembly and or damage the glass itself during installation and the panoramic glass panel may break while the vehicle is in motion resulting in injuries to occupants and or a vehicle crash.
Hyundai reports that they have had 76 warranty claims, 20 customer complaints and six field reports regarding glass fracturing. They are unaware of any vehicle accidents resulting from the sunroof breaking, but have had five reports of minor injuries (cuts) to occupants.
Hyundai is recalling the affected vehicles under January date for inspection and replacement of the panoramic sunroofs, if required.
There will be no charge for the inspection, repairs and/or replacements. In any case, the sunroof is covered under the Hyundai new 5 year / 60,000 mile warranty.
